Welcome to the Last Minute String Band website, from the heart of the Rocky Mountains in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado.
The Last Minute String Band was formed in the Fall of 2002 and grew out of the efforts of a small group of friends and musicians, all sharing a passion for playing old time acoustic music.
The group draws its energy primarily from the musical traditions of early Appalachia, Ireland and Scotland. Many of the tunes are hundreds of years old though some have more contemporary sources…newer tunes written in the same traditional spirit.
The Last Minute String Band sponsors and produces the monthly Glenwood Springs Contra/Square Dance, offers monthly public sessions open to anyone that wants to participate and performs at local community events and fundraisers. Check inside for dance and session schedules as well as other LMSB appearances. Go the music page and listen to some of the tunes... or learn the new tune of the week..play along from the chord charts on the written music page. Make use of this website!
It's an attempt to help us all.. players, dancers and any other interested folks.. keep track of just what we’re up to, as well as honor everyone’s efforts along the way. What started as a simple weekly jam has grown beyond the bounds of this fiddle player’s living room.
One thing’s for sure, we’re dedicated to carrying on this tradition of playing and performing the “tunes”...infusing them with the energy and musicianship that they deserve. And We’ve seen over and over how the music (and dancing) succeed at bringing folks from all walks of life together for a great time. We encourage any of you closet pickers out there within range to come out of your kitchens, living rooms (and closets) to share in the joy and community of this living tradition.
We’re delighted and proud to be a small part of this link. – Don Paine, LMSB |
